Job Description
A Respiratory Therapist provides care and treatment to patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. They work as members of interdisciplinary teams in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings. Respiratory therapists evaluate, treat, and monitor patients with respiratory conditions, administer respiratory therapies, and educate patients on managing their conditions.
Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate patients with respiratory disorders to determine appropriate treatment plans.
- Administer respiratory therapies, such as oxygen administration, bronchodilator therapy, and inhalation treatments.
- Monitor patients' responses to therapy and adjust treatments as needed.
- Perform diagnostic tests, such as pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gas analysis.
- Educate patients on respiratory conditions, medication usage, and self-care strategies.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Provide emergency respiratory care in critical situations.
Requirements
- Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
- Valid respiratory therapist license or certification.
- In-depth knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
