Carpenter

Carpenters are skilled professionals who work with wood, metal, and other materials to construct and repair buildings, furniture, and various structures. They read blueprints, take measurements, and use hand and power tools to cut, shape, and join materials. Carpenters work in residential, commercial, and industrial settings and collaborate with architects, contractors, and other tradespeople to complete projects. They may specialize in areas such as framing, cabinetry, or finish work.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or design plans.
• Measure, cut, and shape wood, metal, or other materials.
• Use hand and power tools, such as saws, drills, and sanders, to create or modify structures.
• Assemble and install framework, cabinets, shelves, doors, and other wooden or metal components.
• Install or repair building fixtures, such as windows, stairs, or molding.
• Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other tradespeople to ensure project specifications are met.
• Estimate materials needed and cost of projects.
• Follow safety guidelines to protect themselves and others.
• Maintain and care for tools and equipment.
• Keep accurate records of work performed and time spent on each project.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program or vocational training is preferred.
• Proven experience as a carpenter, either through employment or personal projects.
• Knowledge of construction methods, tools, and materials.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design plans.
• Proficiency in using carpentry hand and power tools.
• Physical fitness and manual dexterity.
• Attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
• Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and find solutions.
• Time management skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
