The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of industrial processes and systems. They identify potential hazards, design and implement safety measures, and provide recommendations for process improvements. The Process Safety Engineer plays a critical role in preventing accidents, reducing risks, and promoting a safety culture within the organization.
Responsibilities
Identify and evaluate potential process-related hazards and risks, including fire, explosion, toxic release, and equipment failures.
Develop and implement process safety management systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and safety reviews to identify and mitigate potential risks.
Design and review safety systems, including emergency shutdown systems, relief systems, and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
Participate in safety audits and inspections, identify non-compliance issues, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
Investigate incidents, near-misses, and process upsets to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.
Train and educate employees on process safety procedures, safe operating practices, and emergency response protocols.
Collaborate with process engineers and plant personnel to develop and implement process improvements that enhance safety and reliability.
Stay informed about new technologies, regulations, and industry best practices related to process safety management.
Compile and maintain accurate records and documentation related to process safety activities and incidents.
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Safety Engineering, or related field.
Proven experience as a Process Safety Engineer or similar role, preferably in a process-intensive industry, such as oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, or petrochemicals.
Strong knowledge of process safety standards, regulations, and methodologies, such as hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies, layers of protection analysis (LOPA), and fault tree analysis (FTA).
Proficiency in process safety software and tools, such as PHA-Pro, DNV GL Phast, or similar.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
