Medical Coder

As a Medical Coder, you will be responsible for accurately coding and abstracting patient medical records according to established coding guidelines. You will work closely with healthcare providers, physicians, and other medical staff to ensure that all medical procedures and diagnoses are coded correctly for billing, insurance claims, and compliance purposes

Responsibilities

• Account for coding and abstracting of patient encounters
• Assign appropriate alphanumeric codes to medical procedures, diagnoses, and services using recognized coding systems such as ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Research and analyze data needs for reimbursement
• Review medical records, clinical notes, and physician documentation to ensure accurate code assignment.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses and procedures when necessary.
• Make sure that codes are sequenced according to government and insurance regulations
• Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with established coding guidelines, regulations, and insurance requirements.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding changes and updates.
• Assist in generating accurate and complete medical bills for insurance claims and patient invoices.
• Ensure that coded information is properly linked to billing systems.
• Ensure all medical records are filed and processed correctly
• Analyze medical records and identify documentation deficiencies
• Prepare and submit insurance claims, following proper coding protocols to maximize reimbursement.
• Address claim denials and resubmit as needed.
• Serve as resource and subject matter expert to other coding staff
• Review and verify documentation for diagnoses, procedures and treatment results
• Identify diagnostic and procedural information
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals, physicians, and billing staff to resolve coding-related queries and issues.

• Previous experience as a Medical Coder in a healthcare setting, preferably in the UAE.
• Proficiency in medical coding systems, including ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in coding assignments.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and medical billing systems.
• Knowledge of insurance claims processing and billing practices.
• Understanding of healthcare regulations, compliance, and privacy laws (HIPAA).
• Analytical skills for reviewing medical records and documentation.
• Problem-solving abilities for addressing coding discrepancies and claim denials.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with healthcare professionals and billing staff.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of additional languages such as Arabic is beneficial.
