Job Description
The Chartering Manager is responsible for overseeing the chartering operations of a shipping company. They manage and negotiate contracts for the transportation of goods via sea, coordinate vessel schedules, and ensure compliance with international shipping regulations. The Chartering Manager must have a strong understanding of the shipping industry and market trends. They should possess excellent negotiation and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue chartering opportunities to maximize vessel utilization and revenue.
- Negotiate and manage charter contracts with clients and suppliers.
- Monitor market trends and changes in freight rates to optimize chartering operations.
- Coordinate vessel schedules to ensure timely and efficient transportation of goods.
- Collaborate with internal departments, such as operations and finance, to streamline chartering processes.
- Ensure compliance with international shipping regulations, including customs and safety requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, brokers, and other stakeholders in the shipping industry.
- Conduct market research to identify potential new business opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in maritime studies, logistics, or a related field.
- Proven experience in chartering or freight operations in the shipping industry.
- Excellent understanding of international shipping regulations and market dynamics.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
