Job Description

A Transport Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing transportation operations, including scheduling, routing, and ensuring the timely and safe movement of good. They collaborate with various departments and external partners to optimize transportation processes.


Responsibilities:


  • Plan and schedule transportation routes to optimize efficiency, minimize travel time, and reduce costs.
  • Coordinate with drivers and carriers to ensure timely deliveries or pick-ups.
  • Manage and maintain the organization's vehicle fleet, including scheduling maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure vehicles comply with safety regulations and are in proper working condition.
  • Assign routes and tasks to drivers based on availability and skills.
  • Communicate with drivers to provide instructions, updates, and support.
  • Coordinate the loading and unloading of goods to ensure proper handling and distribution.
  • Monitor cargo to prevent damage and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of transportation activities, including delivery receipts, invoices, and mileage logs.
  • Prepare reports on transportation metrics and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
  • Implement safety measures and training to prevent accidents and ensure driver well-being.
  • Coordinate with customers or clients to schedule deliveries, resolve issues, and provide updates.
  • Address customer inquiries and concerns related to transportation.
  • Monitor transportation costs, fuel consumption, and expenses to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist in budgeting and financial analysis related to transportation.
  • Collaborate with carriers, logistics providers, and suppliers to ensure smooth transportation operations.
  • Negotiate rates and terms with external partners.
  • Develop contingency plans and protocols for handling transportation disruptions, such as traffic delays or accidents.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is advantageous).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation and records.
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in using transportation management software and technology.
  • Problem-solving abilities to address logistical challenges.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
  • Previous experience in transportation coordination, logistics, or a related role is beneficial.
