Job Description

The Stowage Planning Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient and safe loading of cargo vessels by developing optimal stowage plans. This role ensures that container placement adheres to stability, weight distribution, and port sequence regulations while maximizing space and vessel utilization. Working in a high-paced maritime operations environment, the manager collaborates closely with port terminals, vessel crews, and logistics teams to ensure timely and compliant loading operations. The position demands strong analytical thinking, real-time problem-solving, and effective coordination across global shipping stakeholders.


Responsibilities:

  • Developing detailed stowage plans for container vessels to optimize space utilization and ensure safe cargo distribution.

  • Coordinating with port operations, terminal planners, and vessel crews to implement stowage plans effectively.

  • Monitoring vessel schedules and adjusting plans to accommodate changes in cargo, weather, or port delays.

  • Ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations, vessel stability criteria, and hazardous cargo restrictions.

  • Reviewing and validating cargo manifests and port rotation data to ensure accurate planning.

  • Collaborating with ship captains and technical teams to resolve planning conflicts and operational constraints.

  • Leading initiatives to improve planning efficiency through technology, software upgrades, and process optimization.

  • Training and mentoring junior planners to maintain high planning standards and consistency across operations.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Naval Architecture, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in vessel stowage planning, preferably within a global shipping or logistics company.

  • Proficiency in stowage planning software such as MACS3, StowMan, or similar platforms.

  • Deep understanding of container vessel operations, cargo types, and safety/stability regulations.

  • Strong analytical and spatial reasoning skills for developing complex loading plans.

  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with diverse operational teams across time zones.

  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly to last-minute operational changes.

  • Familiarity with IMO regulations, IMDG Code, and industry best practices in maritime logistics.
