Process Safety Engineer

The Process Safety Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring the safe design, operation, and maintenance of chemical and industrial processes. This role focuses on identifying potential hazards, analyzing risks, and implementing engineering solutions to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with industry safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in process engineering, safety standards, and risk assessment methodologies. They will collaborate closely with operations, engineering, and HSE teams to enhance process safety across all project phases.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, What-If, and FMEA studies.

• Develop and maintain process safety documentation and ensure alignment with regulatory standards.

• Review and evaluate process design and equipment specifications for inherent safety.

• Implement layers of protection analysis (LOPA) and quantitative risk assessments (QRA).

• Support management of change (MOC) processes to assess safety impacts of process modifications.

• Investigate process safety incidents and near-misses, providing root cause analysis and corrective actions.

• Provide technical guidance on the implementation of safety systems such as relief devices, safety instrumented systems (SIS), and emergency shutdown (ESD) systems.

• Participate in audits and safety reviews to identify improvement opportunities.

• Train and support staff on process safety best practices and procedures.

• Ensure compliance with international safety standards such as OSHA, NFPA, API, and IEC.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.

• 3–7 years of experience in process safety or chemical/process engineering within oil & gas, petrochemical, or manufacturing industries.

• In-depth knowledge of process safety methodologies and tools.

• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.

• Experience using software tools like PHA-Pro, DNV Phast, or similar for safety analysis.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and team collaboration abilities.

• Certification in process safety is a plus.
