Data Cabling Engineer

The Data Cabling Engineer is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems in commercial and residential environments. This role requires expertise in network cabling, fiber optics, and copper-based installations to ensure efficient data and communication infrastructure. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of industry standards, network infrastructure, and the ability to work both independently and within a team.

Responsibilities:

• install, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling in accordance with industry standards

• perform structured cabling system installations, including routing and securing cables in ceilings, walls, and floors

• conduct site surveys to assess cabling requirements and recommend the best solutions

• troubleshoot and repair network connectivity issues related to cabling and hardware components

• collaborate with IT teams and contractors to integrate cabling solutions with network infrastructure

• ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during installations and maintenance work

• document cable layouts, network diagrams, and installation reports for future reference

• label and organize cabling systems to maintain a structured and efficient setup

• conduct regular maintenance checks and upgrades to improve network performance

• provide technical support and guidance to clients regarding cabling requirements and best practices

Requirements:

• diploma or certification in networking, telecommunications, or a related field

• proven experience in data cabling installation and maintenance, including fiber optic and Cat5e/6/6a cabling

• knowledge of structured cabling standards such as TIA/EIA, BICSI, and ISO/IEC

• ability to read and interpret technical drawings and network blueprints

• experience using cable testing tools and troubleshooting techniques

• strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting and climbing ladders

• excellent teamwork and communication skills

• willingness to travel to various project sites and work flexible hours when required
